Nintendo Switch 2 US MSRP Rises to $499.99 Today as Nintendo of America’s September 1 Price Revision Takes Effect

The Nintendo Switch 2 costs $499.99 in the United States starting today, September 1, 2026, as Nintendo of America’s previously announced price revision finally goes live at retail.

In a notice posted to the Nintendo of America newsroom in May, Nintendo said it would raise the MSRP of the Switch 2 system in the U.S. from $449.99 to $499.99 “beginning on September 1, 2026,” citing “various changes in market conditions” that are “expected to extend over the medium to long term.” Pricing for the original Nintendo Switch is not changing, and Nintendo said it would share updated Switch 2 pricing for Latin America at a later date.

The $50 jump is the first U.S. price hike for Switch 2 since launch and brings it in line with Nintendo’s earlier 2026 moves in Japan, Canada and Europe, which took effect on different dates earlier this year. Nintendo added the same apology it used in May’s original announcement, telling customers it “understands that pricing changes can be challenging” and thanking fans for their “continued enthusiasm.” Retail listings in the U.S. have already begun reflecting the new price on the official Nintendo Store and at major retailers.

The price hike lands as the broader console market adjusts to a sustained memory and storage crunch that has pushed component costs higher across the industry. Sony and Microsoft have both raised prices on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles multiple times over the last year, and Nintendo’s hardware partners are facing similar pressure. For Nintendo, the timing matters: the Switch 2 is approaching its first holiday window since launch, and the company is also rolling out two new Switch 2 bundles this fall to soften the sting — a $549.99 Mario Kart World bundle due in late September, and a $529.99 Nintendo Switch Sports Resort bundle landing October 22.

For gamers who already locked in the pre-hike price, today is effectively the deadline. Anyone who waited will now pay $499.99 for the standalone console, with bundles and accessories priced accordingly.
