Wartales Community Update 7 Launches Free on September 7 With The Lair, Prisoner System Overhaul and Six New Battle Maps

Shiro Games has released Wartales Community Update 7 as a free download on PC via Steam on September 7, 2026, adding a new criminal hub, a rebuilt prisoner system, three new armor sets, six new battle maps, and a long list of quality-of-life changes. The update arrives as the medieval open-world tactical RPG continues to expand past the one million units sold mark.

The centerpiece of the new build is The Lair, a dedicated hideout designed for mercenaries who lean into the Crime and Chaos playstyle. Warbands first need to earn enough suspicion through theft, robberies, and other illicit activity before informants will reveal the location of The Lair. Once the crew is established inside the hideout, players can fence stolen goods, take on criminal bounties, outfit themselves with exclusive new weapons, or pay down their suspicion levels as required.

The prisoner system has also been reworked from the ground up. Captured enemies now have their own dedicated skill tree, along with individual needs and desires driven by their specific traits. Warchiefs have more direct control over captives while in camp and during combat, and prisoners have new hidden objectives that can be uncovered and used to influence their trust level. Shiro is framing the change as a deliberate push to make captures feel like decisions with real weight rather than routine encounters.

Beyond those headline systems, Community Update 7 ships with the smaller changes players had been requesting for months. A new "End Round" button lets combat skip the turns of any unit that has not acted yet, and can be canceled at any time, removing some of the click cycles that bogged down longer fights. Character sheets have been redesigned and split across three tabs to make information easier to read, and three new armor sets can now be bought — or stolen — from wandering merchants. Six new battle maps have been added across the regions of Alazar, Harag, Gosenberg, and Edoran, alongside a new layer of personal mercenary quests for individual characters.

Wartales players on Xbox also have something to celebrate. The Curse of Rigel expansion, which had previously been confined to PC, is now available on the Xbox Store as a separate purchase. The expansion drops warbands into County Rigel and the dark Sylve Forest, where they have to investigate a series of brutal murders and fend off corrupted predators while keeping the party's light and sanity from slipping away.

The update also coincides with a Steam Midweek sale. Wartales' base game is discounted by 72 percent, with up to 35 percent off all of its DLC, and Community Update 7 itself is free for everyone who already owns the game. More information, including a launch trailer and links to the official Wartales site, is published on the publisher's official channels and through Steam.
