W4 Games Closes $18m Series B Led by Tencent to Scale the Godot Engine Across Asia

W4 Games, the commercial-services arm founded by the creators of the open-source Godot Engine, has closed an $18 million Series B funding round led by Tencent. The Dublin-based company says the new capital brings its total funding to $33 million and will be used to expand its international team by 50% and push deeper into the enterprise market.

In addition to the investment, W4 Games has signed a multi-year strategic partnership with Tencent to scale the Godot ecosystem in Asia, covering go-to-market work, localisation, ecosystem support, advocacy and broader market development. Other participants in the round include OSS Capital, LUX, Naval Ravikant and Tobias Lütke's family office.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, W4 co-CEO Nicola Farronato framed the deal as more than just financial: "It's not only about the money. It's about being really willing to develop strategic activities together. We couldn't be more excited to start this journey."

The funding lands during a strong run for Godot. W4 cites SteamDB data showing the number of Godot games released on Steam rose by more than 50% year-on-year in both 2024 and 2025, and its own analysis of Gamalytic numbers indicating that titles earning more than $1 million in annual sales climbed from two to over 50 in three years. Godot engine creator Juan Linietsky, who co-founded W4, called the deal "an important next step" in the company's global expansion.
