The Sinking City 2 Launches Today on PS5, Bringing Lovecraftian Survival Horror Back to Arkham
Frogwares’ The Sinking City 2 officially launches on PS5 on August 18, 2026, marking the sequel’s console debut. The PlayStation Blog confirms a creature-focused survival horror direction, while Frogwares’ own listing shows PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S as simultaneous release targets.

The Sinking City 2 is officially out today on PlayStation 5. Frogwares confirmed the launch on the PlayStation Blog on August 18, 2026, with creature designer Evgeny Maloshenkov walking players through five of the sequel’s standout enemies. The post also doubles as a launch announcement for the PS5 version.
According to the PlayStation Blog feature, The Sinking City 2 shifts away from open-world mystery and leans harder into semi-open-world survival horror. Combat, exploration and resource management now sit alongside the original’s Lovecraftian dread. Players return to a flooded, monster-infested Arkham and meet returning investigator Calvin Rafferty.
The Frogwares studio confirmed back in June that The Sinking City 2 would release on August 18, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, alongside a free Steam demo. The studio’s official news section still lists the same date, with today’s PlayStation Blog post marking the moment the PS5 build goes live.
The creature showcase highlights five signature threats that design lead Maloshenkov describes as the backbone of the new combat loop:
- Slither – a colony parasite that uses long human arms to crawl through tight spaces. It appears in two stages as the infestation grows stronger.
- Acheronian – the largest Wylebeast, originally roaming Oakmont and now relocated to Arkham. Slow but heavily resistant, with a fully redesigned attack pattern.
- Lethian Revenant – a transformed human enemy. Its head splits open vertically and spits bacterial fluid from a distance, fighting reluctantly from behind cover.
- Deep Ones – the iconic ocean-dwelling humanoids, biologically immortal unless killed by violence, able to survive on land for extended periods.
- Additional variants teased in the post round out the early-game bestiary.
For a franchise that began with a slower, investigation-heavy open world, the new direction is significant. Frogwares has kept the eldritch atmosphere but rebuilt the moment-to-moment play around threat management, evasion and ammo scarcity rather than detective casework. The PS5 version launches with that design intact, while Xbox Series X|S and PC players who have not already jumped in via the Steam demo receive the same day-one build.
The game’s PlayStation Store page is live with the standard edition and any platform-specific pre-order bonuses Frogwares has lined up. As with the original, players should expect a gritty, world-of-its-own tone rather than a Hollywood blockbuster treatment of Lovecraft.
The Sinking City 2 is available starting today on PS5, alongside its previously released PC and Xbox Series X|S versions.
