Sanitarium Enhanced Brings DreamForge's 1998 Asylum Horror to PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Switch, and PC
Ziggurat Interactive and QUByte Interactive are bringing DreamForge Intertainment's 1998 cult psychological horror point-and-click adventure Sanitarium back with full controller support, widescreen visuals and new bonus content, launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Switch and PC later in 2026.

Ziggurat Interactive and developer QUByte Interactive have officially unveiled Sanitarium Enhanced, a modernised version of DreamForge Intertainment's award-winning 1998 psychological horror adventure Sanitarium. The remaster is scheduled to launch later in 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store and GOG.
Originally released on PC in 1998 and named Adventure Game of the Year at the time, Sanitarium follows Max Laughton, a man who wakes up disfigured and amnesiac inside a decaying asylum with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Each chapter pulls Max deeper through a chain of nightmare worlds, including a village of deformed children, a town of insectoid mutations and a circus of the grotesque, as players piece together the fractured truth of his identity.
Sanitarium Enhanced adds full controller support for the first time, optimised Steam Deck tuning, optional hints to help locate interactables, a quality-of-life movement speed toggle, fixes for legacy bugs and issues, widescreen resolution during gameplay, and an extras gallery containing never-before-seen material from the original development team. The Steam listing confirms the PC release is being prepared under Steamworks app ID 4980620, with a placeholder 2026 release year published to Valve's storefront ahead of a concrete date.
According to the announcement article published by Gematsu and confirmed via Ziggurat Interactive's official game page, the publisher is handling Sanitarium Enhanced as part of its catalogue of restored and re-released PC-era classics. The game page on ziggurat.games describes the title as an updated edition aimed at bringing the 1998 cult hit to modern consoles for the first time, with the announcement timing coinciding with the Gamescom Opening Night Live broadcast weekend.
Sanitarium Enhanced has not yet received a specific release date beyond the 2026 launch window. Pricing for the console and PC editions has not been disclosed at the time of writing.
