Pokémon TCG Pocket Adds First-Ever Dual-Type Cards in October 2026, Starting With Mega Mewtwo X ex

DeNA used the Pokémon TCG Pocket panel at PokémonXP on August 28, 2026 to confirm the mobile card game's biggest mechanical shake-up since launch: Dual-Type Pokémon cards are coming to Pokémon TCG Pocket beginning in October 2026, with Mega Mewtwo X ex as the headline reveal.

The announcement closes a long-standing gap between the physical Pokémon Trading Card Game and the digital counterpart. TCG Pocket launched in October 2024 with single-type cards for every species in the game, even when the creature's core games use two types. From October 2026 onward, that constraint lifts, and DeNA is using Pokémon to set the bar: Mega Mewtwo X ex will be the first Dual-Type card in the game, counting as a Psychic- and Fighting-type Mega Evolution.

The new Dual-Type cards are the centerpiece of "a new series" of expansions scheduled to begin rolling out in October 2026, alongside the first entries in the upcoming C series. DeNA framed the change as opening up entirely new deck-building strategies, since type match-ups now matter in both directions: a Mega Mewtwo X ex can hit Fighting-weak targets like Snorlax, Dark and Ice types, while still answering Psychic-weak Pokémon like Machamp line members thanks to its secondary type.

Joining Mega Mewtwo X ex on the new-look roster are two First Partner Pokémon ex cards: Fuecoco ex and Piplup ex. DeNA's trailer shows the two scrapping over an apple, suggesting Paldean Fire and Sinnoh Water starters are entering the format as playable ex cards for the first time. The post explicitly teases more First Partner Pokémon ex cards beyond the pair shown, hinting at a wider rollout across the C series.

The Dual-Type and First Partner ex cards begin rolling out in October 2026 as part of a new sequence of Pokémon TCG Pocket expansions. DeNA has not yet named the next booster or pinned a release date, but the company did include the planned cards in the card game's official June patch of "TPC Strategy" — a content roadmap first published earlier this year — and described the additions as a meaningful rule change.

Pokémon TCG Pocket is available free on iOS and Android; new expansions and updates remain free for all existing players. Trainers who collect Dual-Type Pokémon will be able to build distinct dual-typed decks the moment the cards roll out in October 2026.
