OLED Xbox Ally X20 Goes Up for Standalone Pre-Order at $1,300, Shipping October 15

Asus has put the standalone OLED version of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 up for pre-order at $1,299.99, more than two months after the 20th-anniversary handheld first broke cover at Computex locked to a $2,000 AR-glasses bundle. The new listing, first reported by The Verge on August 25, lets players buy the translucent, gold-trimmed Ally X20 without the bundled ROG XREAL R1 glasses and ships on October 15, 2026.

The Verge confirmed pricing and availability with Asus spokesperson Don Nguyen, and both Best Buy and Asus's online store are now listing the device for $1,299.99. The Shortcut and Mashable independently verified the same figure and the October 15 ship date within minutes, while Retro Handhelds and Gizmodo both published in the same window. IGN framed the standalone price as a relative bargain compared to the original $2,000 bundle, calling the extra $300 over the standard OLED Ally X for the upgraded controls, new cooling and 7.4-inch OLED screen a defensible premium.

The standalone hardware matches the version Asus first showed off at Computex 2026 in June. Buyers get the 20th anniversary translucent shell with gold accents, the new 7.4-inch 1080p OLED display, the redesigned TMR joysticks and the rotating 4-way/8-way D-pad Asus has been teasing since the summer. The Verge notes that the unit also drops the Xbox-branded "Library" button that, on earlier Xbox Ally devices, can yank players out of a game mid-session.

The original 20th-anniversary Ally X20 was announced as part of a $2,000 bundle that paired the handheld with ROG XREAL R1 AR glasses, and backlash over being forced to buy the bundle to get the OLED model prompted Asus to confirm a standalone version was coming in mid-July. Today's $1,299.99 pre-order is that standalone release finally arriving with a concrete price and a ship date, just in time for Asus's Gamescom 2026 showcase in Cologne.
