NVIDIA Confirms DLSS 5 Will Come to GeForce RTX 40 Series After RTX 50 Tuning
NVIDIA has confirmed to The Verge that DLSS 5 will officially expand to GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada Lovelace" GPUs once RTX 50 performance tuning is finished later this fall, reversing the original RTX 50-only plan.

NVIDIA has officially committed to bringing DLSS 5, its 3D-Guided Neural Rendering technology, to GeForce RTX 40-series "Ada Lovelace" GPUs, reversing its earlier RTX 50-only stance. The change was confirmed to The Verge on September 4, 2026, by NVIDIA spokesperson Rajal Maharaj.
"DLSS 5 is our most computationally demanding model to date. Since we initially announced it in March, we've achieved a 5X performance gain and there's more to come. Our current focus is on optimizing performance for the GeForce RTX 50 Series with model updates expected later this fall. Once RTX 50 Series performance is more fully tuned, we plan to work on expanding official support to the GeForce RTX 40 Series," NVIDIA said in a statement provided to the outlet.
The reversal follows weeks of community pressure after modders ported a leaked version of DLSS 5 to older GeForce hardware and demonstrated that the AI model could run, with mixed results, on RTX 40, RTX 30 and even RTX 20-series cards. DLSS 5 officially launched on September 3 inside NBA 2K27 from Visual Concepts and 2K, limited at debut to RTX 50-series desktop and laptop GPUs and GeForce NOW Ultimate streaming.
NVIDIA has not given a release date for RTX 40 support, but the company's wording suggests it will follow the RTX 50 optimization work scheduled for later this autumn. That places a wider Ada Lovelace rollout in late 2026 or early 2027. When asked about RTX 30 and RTX 20-series GPUs, Maharaj said: "Right now the focus is of course on 50-series. One step at a time."
NVIDIA also clarified how much control end users will get over DLSS 5 once it lands on older GPUs. "For gamers, DLSS 5 is a simple on-or-off toggle," the company told The Verge. "The more granular artistic controls are for developers, including model selection, Structure Intensity, Tone Intensity, automatic masking and custom per-pixel masking." Developers can still choose to expose certain sliders in-game, as they already do with DLSS Super Resolution.
NVIDIA did not re-confirm the original DLSS 5 launch lineup. When pressed on whether announced titles like Assassin's Creed Shadows, Hogwarts Legacy, Starfield and Resident Evil Requiem were still on board, the company's only reply was: "More games are on the way. Many developers are actively integrating DLSS 5, and we'll share updates on upcoming titles as partners finalize their integrations."
DLSS 5 was unveiled at GTC in March 2026 as NVIDIA's first DLSS release focused on visual fidelity rather than raw performance. The technology uses a real-time neural rendering model to infuse pixels with photoreal lighting and materials anchored to a game's 3D content, with backing from Bethesda, CAPCOM, Hotta Studio, NetEase, NCSOFT, S-GAME, Tencent, Ubisoft and Warner Bros. Games.
