Nintendo Direct September 9, 2026 Delivers Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond, Monster Hunter Wilds on Switch 2, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation Pre-Orders

Nintendo closed a back-to-back Direct week with a 45-minute, ~30-game presentation focused on Switch 2 and Switch software for the rest of 2026 and into 2027. The biggest reveals were a brand-new 2D Metroid game from MercurySteam, a 3D Kirby adventure billed as the franchise's first open-style outing, a December 4 Switch 2 release date for Monster Hunter Wilds, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation pre-orders going live the same day as the broadcast.

Headlining the show was Metroid Ravenous, a 2D action adventure once again developed by Spanish studio MercurySteam in collaboration with Nintendo EPD. The studio previously shipped Metroid Dread in 2021 and Metroid: Samus Returns for 3DS. Ravenous is set well after the events of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and lands on Switch 2 on January 28, 2027. Nintendo confirmed both an amiibo line and a special edition for the launch.

The closing slot went to Kirby and the World Beyond, a 3D Kirby adventure Nintendo is positioning as the series' first entry with freely explorable, open environments. It launches in spring 2027, exclusively on Switch 2, and leans on the franchise's copy abilities in expanded 3D spaces.

Third-party highlights were anchored by Capcom, which used the Direct to pin down Monster Hunter Wilds for Switch 2 on December 4, 2026. The Switch 2 port includes every Title Update released on other platforms, the Grand Hub, the Final Fantasy XIV Online collaboration content, and local wireless multiplayer alongside cross-play. The 2027 expansion Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance will arrive on Switch 2 on the same day as other platforms. Square Enix opened Final Fantasy VII Revelation pre-orders on the eShop during the broadcast, with the conclusion to the remake trilogy locked for April 8, 2027 on Switch 2. Crisis Core –Final Fantasy VII– Reunion also went live as a dedicated Switch 2 edition on the same day.

First-party Switch 2 upgrades also got space: Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy launches November 12 with voice controls for Oatchi and a new mode featuring 72 stages released over time; Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition arrives February 25, 2027 with new content; and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition launches December 3, adding a new character called Shimmer and the Heroes' Vault mode. Mario Kart World received a free 1.8.0 update the same day, bringing ten classic Super Mario Kart courses and two new Knockout Tour routes, and Star Fox Adventures was added to the Nintendo Switch Online GameCube – Nintendo Classics catalog the same evening.

Other dated third-party additions include Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition on October 16, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in digital form on October 22, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered on September 29, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on September 18, and Danganronpa 2x2 with a new "Slayhem" mode on January 14, 2027. Persona 6 received a brief logo teaser alongside a deeper Persona 4 Revival trailer. Capcom also detailed Mega Man: Dual Override with Proto Man play and two amiibo for spring 2027, and a Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis reimagining of Lara Croft's 1996 adventure was announced. Switch 2 exclusive Grip, a handheld-only horror game from Bloober Team, was confirmed for 2027.

Pokemon Pokopia's Expansion Pass got a new trailer, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort (October 22) received fresh gameplay, and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon Classic Edition joined Far Cry 3 in a spring 2027 package. Mario Kart World's free update, Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition voice controls and Meccha Chameleon all went live on the eShop the same day as the Direct, alongside a Cairn demo and Star Fox Adventures for Nintendo Switch Online.
