NBA 2K27 Reveals Co-ed City, Badge Tokens, and Co-op MyCareer in August 18 Showcase

NBA 2K27 will launch on September 4 with the most ambitious set of feature changes the franchise has attempted in years, 2K confirmed during a 45-minute Preseason Breakdown livestream from the Inuit Dome in Los Angeles on August 18.

According to a detailed recap published today on the official PlayStation Blog by Kyle Martin, Manager of Global Digital Content for NBA 2K, the studio is positioning this year's entry around three pillars: reworked on-court gameplay, a co-ed City, and a fundamental overhaul of the Builder and Badge economy.

A Co-ed City for the First Time

The headline change is that The City will be co-ed for the first time. Players will be able to create a female MyPlayer and compete in The City alongside the global community, with all MyPlayers — male and female — built on the same framework. Height, badges, attribute ratings and wingspan are determined strictly by the MyPlayer build rather than appearance, and every mode inside The City, including The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up and Starting Five, will be open to both. The update also introduces two new spaces, Crew HQ and Casual Corner, while female MyPlayers will remain a City-only experience.

The Rec, The Theater, Ante-Up and the Seasonal Parks each get new environments. The Rec will now rotate randomly between five launch-day venues: a High School Gym, an Outdoor Court, a Private Gym, a Crowded Arena and a Season-Themed Venue.

Badge Tokens Replace the Old Cap System

The Builder is being rebuilt around Badge Tokens. Each Badge now costs a set number of tokens, and the Builder will display in real time how a player's size and position affect which Badges they qualify for. NBA 2K27 ships with 53 Badges in total, including 19 brand-new ones designed to create a more balanced playing field.

Layered on top of that is a new Synergy system, which the studio describes as "the next evolution of Badges and boosts." Synergy slots offer either a +1 or a +2 boost, split into Fuse Badges that carry the boost for the entire game, and Reaction Badges that automatically trigger once the paired Fuse Badge has activated enough times.

In MyTeam, for the first time, players will be able to exchange any of their Player Cards, except Free Agent cards, for elite rewards, even cards earned from Season level rewards. Cards used to unlock a Collection Reward will become unauctionable rather than locked, meaning they remain usable in The Exchange afterward.

MyNBA Legacy Lets Players Build a 100-Year Dynasty

The biggest addition to MyNBA is MyNBA Legacy, a single-player, player-locked mode that blends front-office management with on-court development. Players can choose any modern-era player, earn experience to upgrade their attributes and Badges, and craft a legend across an entire century.

MyCareer also picks up the historical era system for the first time, allowing players to step outside the modern NBA and insert their MyPlayer into one of five iconic eras: the Magic vs. Bird Era, the Jordan Era, the Kobe Era, the LeBron Era and the Steph Era.

Co-op MyCareer With Trace Miller

For the first time, MyCareer supports co-op multiplayer via a Running Mate named Trace Miller, a custom teammate players meet in the G League who stays with them through their NBA career. Players choose one of nine build templates inspired by shades of NBA superstars, then earn points through gameplay to upgrade Trace's attributes, Badges and playstyle. The co-op partner controls Trace exactly as built, and both players earn separate VC and Season XP.

NBA 2K27 Deluxe Edition and Ultra Edition pre-orders unlock up to nine days of Early Access starting August 26 at 9:00 a.m. PT, with availability varying by region.
