Halloween: The Game, IllFonic's asymmetrical horror sandbox based on John Carpenter's 1978 film, has launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on September 8, 2026, with a Digital Deluxe Edition also available on each platform. The release marks the long-awaited arrival of one of the highest-profile licensed horror games of the year and brings both a 1v4 online mode and a standalone single-player story campaign set during "The Night He Came Home."
In the headline multiplayer mode, one player controls Michael Myers while four others take on the role of the Heroes of Haddonfield. Michael can lean on stealth, darkness and signature abilities such as Shape Jump to track residents and catch them before they can be warned or evacuated. The four-person hero team plays as a cooperative group with separate jobs: searching Haddonfield for useful items, warning townspeople, gathering weapons, contacting authorities and ultimately working toward an escape. Unlike most chase-driven horror titles, the heroes are explicitly designed to convince NPCs to fight back, with the design encouraging townspeople to call local authorities and resist Michael as the night progresses.
The standalone single-player story mode lets players inhabit Michael directly across six chapters covering the events surrounding "The Night He Came Home." It retells his escape from Smith's Grove Sanitarium and his path through Haddonfield, with Dr. Samuel J. Loomis narrating his findings as the body count rises. Chapters are gated by primary objectives but support a sandbox-driven approach, with players deciding how to orchestrate each killing using Michael's abilities and the dynamic environments. Each chapter also contains secondary challenges and collectibles that unlock additional lore, executions and exclusive multiplayer cosmetics for Michael and the Heroes of Haddonfield.
The launch edition is priced at $39.99 on PlayStation and Steam, with a Digital Deluxe Edition also available. IllFonic is publishing alongside co-publisher Gun Interactive. The game supports English, French, Italian, German and Spanish (Spain) interface and subtitle options, with full English audio. Online PvP and online co-op are supported, and the title is Family Sharing-enabled.
Halloween: The Game first entered the spotlight at Summer Game Fest 2024 and has been positioned by IllFonic as a successor to the developer's earlier licensed asymmetrical work, including Friday the 13th: The Game and Predator: Hunting Grounds. Players who pre-ordered or picked up a Digital Deluxe Edition will find additional in-game content tied to the release, while physical editions are scheduled to follow later in the season. IllFonic has also outlined post-launch support plans aimed at bug fixes and balance updates as the launch window progresses.
