Gears of War: E-Day Gets an 'Adagio' Launch Spot as October 6 Countdown Continues

The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios have released a haunting launch ad for Gears of War: E-Day set to an arrangement of Barber's Adagio for Strings, recapping the human cost of Emergence Day.

Gears of War: E-Day Gets an 'Adagio' Launch Spot as October 6 Countdown Continues

Xbox Game Studios and The Coalition have rolled out a new launch spot for Gears of War: E-Day, dubbed "Adagio," turning Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings into a sweeping, mournful lead-in to the prequel's October 6 release.

The trailer — set to a haunting arrangement of Barber's piece adapted by composer Adam Lastiwka — was published on the official Xbox YouTube channel late on September 12 and amplified on X by Xbox VP of Games Marketing Aaron Greenberg and the official Gears of War account. The 1:19 spot sets in-engine footage of the Locust eruption against the score, showcasing civilians and Coalition soldiers across the city of Kalona as the surface of Sera begins to bleed.

"Adagio" lands as a launch ad, not a gameplay trailer: no UI, no HUD overlays, no combat tutorial beats. Instead, the Coalition uses the spot to lean into the emotional stakes of Emergence Day, the event that defines the franchise and frames Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago's brotherhood in the years before the original Gears of War.

E-Day is built from scratch in Unreal Engine 5 and tells an origin story set 14 years before the 2006 original. It launches worldwide on October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam and Xbox PC), with day-one availability on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass via Play Anywhere. Premium Edition pre-orders unlock up to five days of early access beginning October 1.

The pre-order push is the studio's last major beat before launch. The Coalition is set to share the Gears of War: E-Day achievements list and a final round of multiplayer and campaign deep dives in the run-up to release. Emergence Begins on October 6.
