Gamescom 2026 Is Already Breaking Records Before the Doors Even Open

Gamescom 2026 hasn't even started yet, but the world's biggest gaming event is already setting new milestones. Exhibition space is fully booked for the first time, major publishers are heading to Cologne, Saturday tickets are disappearing fast, and Games Done Quick is joining the show with a dedicated event.

Gamescom 2026 Is Already Breaking Records Before the Doors Even Open

Gamescom is preparing to take over Cologne once again, and 2026 could become one of the biggest editions in the event's history.

The gaming convention officially runs from August 26 to August 30, 2026, but the first records are already being set before visitors have even entered the halls. Demand from exhibitors has reached an unprecedented level, tickets for some of the most popular days are already disappearing, and the list of companies attending reads like a who's who of the games industry.

Gamescom 2026 Has Completely Sold Out Its Exhibition Space

The biggest milestone comes directly from the organizers: all available exhibition space for Gamescom 2026 has been booked.

It is the first time in the history of Gamescom that the entire available exhibition area has been sold out.

Demand from companies has apparently become so high that organizers are already looking at ways to expand the event further in 2027.

That is particularly impressive considering how massive Gamescom already is.

In 2025, around 357,000 visitors from 128 countries traveled to Cologne for the event. A total of 1,568 exhibitors from 72 countries were represented.

If 2026 manages to surpass those numbers as well, Gamescom could be heading toward another attendance record.

Nintendo, Xbox, Capcom, Ubisoft and More Are Coming

The exhibitor lineup for Gamescom 2026 is packed with major names.

Companies currently announced for the show include:

  • Nintendo
  • Xbox
  • Electronic Arts
  • Ubisoft
  • Capcom
  • Bandai Namco
  • Square Enix
  • CD Projekt Red
  • Konami
  • Sega
  • Remedy Entertainment
  • Deep Silver
  • Team17
  • Focus Entertainment
  • Crytek
  • Google Play
  • Razer

And those are only some of the companies expected in Cologne.

One notable absence from the consumer area is Sony Interactive Entertainment Germany, which reportedly won't operate its own booth there. Even without PlayStation having a major public stand, however, the show floor looks set to be enormous.

Saturday Is Already Almost Completely Sold Out

The demand isn't limited to publishers and developers.

Players clearly want to be there as well.

Regular Gamescom visitors can enter the show from Thursday, August 27, while August 26 is primarily reserved for trade visitors and media.

Saturday is traditionally one of the busiest days of the convention, and in 2026 demand is once again extremely high. Regular Saturday day tickets have already sold out, leaving evening tickets as one of the remaining ways to enter the event that day.

Tickets for the Opening Night Live show have also sold out.

For anyone planning a spontaneous trip to Cologne, waiting until the last minute might therefore be a risky strategy.

Opening Night Live Returns on August 25

Before the show floor officially opens, Gamescom week begins with one of its biggest events: Opening Night Live.

The show takes place on August 25 at 8:00 PM local time, with Geoff Keighley once again hosting alongside Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere.

Opening Night Live has become one of the most important gaming showcases of the year, bringing together new trailers, release announcements and occasional surprise reveals from publishers around the world.

Even though tickets for the physical show are already gone, the presentation will once again be streamed online for viewers around the globe.

With Gamescom completely booked out and dozens of major publishers attending, expectations for this year's announcements will naturally be high.

Games Done Quick Comes to Gamescom

Gamescom 2026 is also introducing something particularly interesting for speedrunning fans.

Games Done Quick will host its first dedicated Gamescom event in Cologne.

The Gamescom GDQ event is scheduled to run from August 28 through August 30, bringing a selection of speedruns directly to the convention.

It adds another community-focused attraction to a show that has gradually expanded far beyond traditional publisher booths and playable demos.

Gamescom Keeps Getting Bigger

Gamescom has already grown into one of the most important events on the global gaming calendar, but 2026 shows that the convention may still have room to expand.

The fact that every available exhibition space has been booked before the event even begins is a strong indication of how valuable Gamescom remains for publishers, developers and hardware manufacturers.

At the same time, ticket demand shows that players are just as interested.

With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected in Cologne, a huge lineup of publishers, Opening Night Live, playable upcoming games and the debut of Gamescom GDQ, the 2026 edition is positioned to become another milestone for the event.

And considering that organizers are already discussing expansion plans for 2027, Gamescom's biggest problem may soon be finding enough space for everyone who wants to be part of it.
