Gamescom 2026 Confirms Record Numbers Before Doors Open in Cologne
Gamescom 2026 has confirmed record-breaking numbers before opening in Cologne, including 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries, a sold-out 233,000-square-meter floor, the largest indie area yet, and 47 country pavilions.

Gamescom 2026 has reported record-breaking figures just days before opening its doors in Cologne, with the show confirming a sold-out exhibition, the largest lineup of country pavilions to date, and another record-setting indie area.
According to the official Gamescom overview, the 2026 edition will run from August 26 to 30 in Cologne, with the Gamescom Opening Night Live event premiering on the evening of August 25 for the public. This year’s edition features more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries, with an international share of 70 percent. The event has also booked a gross exhibition space of 233,000 square meters, an all-time high, and 47 country pavilions across 40 countries are taking part. Bulgaria, Morocco, Nigeria, Hungary, and Cyprus are hosting pavilions for the first time. Demand from visitors has already pushed Wildcards and Saturday-only tickets to a sellout.
The Gamescom indie area will host more than 420 companies, a 16 percent year-over-year increase and another record. The space is designed to centralize creative projects and games operating outside large production structures during the show week.
The full Gamescom week will once again be accompanied by multiple livestreams, including Opening Night Live, the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show, Gamescom GDQ, and Gamescom Studio, broadcasting directly from the show floor. Gamescom epix is also returning as an interactive community event set in deep space this year, with 67 card motifs available and 19 of them offered as physical collectibles for attendees. The Gamescom city festival extends the show to the center of Cologne on August 29 and 30, with Thees Uhlmann & Band and The Notwist announced as performers.
Beyond the public event, the 2026 program includes Gamescom dev from August 24 to 25, with more than 380 speakers across 230 sessions on 18 stages. Confirmed keynote speakers include Amir Satvat of Tencent Games and Anthony Gallegos, Creative Director of Subnautica 2. The Gamescom congress opens on August 27 with a first-of-its-kind address from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, with themes including “Spielfeld Demokratie” and “Der Games-Effekt.” The Gamescom invest circle, also scheduled for August 27, will bring selected games and gametech start-ups together with international investors, publishers, and strategic partners.
Felix Falk, Managing Director of the German Games Industry Association, said the numbers just before the show could hardly look better, pointing to more exhibitors from 67 countries, a sold-out venue, a record for country pavilions, and the largest indie area to date. He highlighted the political firsts around Federal President Steinmeier as a milestone for the industry. Gerald Böse, CEO of Koelnmesse, said the demand once again underlines the event’s economic relevance for Germany, Europe, and the global games industry.
