Forza Horizon 6 Drift Attack Mode Goes Live September 7 at Shimanoyama Circuit, Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition Headlines Rewards

Playground Games has launched Drift Attack in Forza Horizon 6 today, September 7, permanently converting the Shimanoyama Circuit into a Shared World drift arena that players can enter without matchmaking, menus, or loading screens. The new mode arrives as the centerpiece of the game's next major series update, with a British Automotive celebration slated to begin on September 10.

According to the studio's official Drift Attack announcement on Forza.net, the new feature blends the accessibility of Horizon's Drift Zones with the competitiveness of Horizon Drift. Players roll through a glowing gantry directly from the open world and immediately start stacking drift points. There is no lap limit, runs work solo, with a Convoy, or alongside other players met in the Shared World, and full leaderboards — including drivetrain information — compare scores across the community.

The headline new mechanic is Clipping Zones. Where standard Drift Zones reward angle and speed alone, Drift Attack introduces designated target zones on the circuit. Drifting through a Clipping Zone multiplies the points earned while the car stays inside its boundaries. The exact multiplier behavior — flat bonus, depth scaling, stacking rules — has not been published by Playground, so the deeper math will only be testable once the build is live.

Drift Attack is unlocked once a player reaches the Yellow Wristband at the Horizon Festival. The Shimanoyama venue is permanent, but Playground has confirmed more Evolving World Drift Attack arenas will arrive in future series updates.

The campaign reward tied to the new mode is one of the more surprising additions of the season: the 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Forza Edition, a fully customized factory drift build. A stock XJ-S is also being added to the Autoshow for credit purchase. The choice fits neatly with the broader British Automotive focus arriving three days later.

That follow-up update, themed British Automotive, launches September 10. It brings a full dealership takeover, three new-to-Horizon British cars earnable via the Festival Playlist, and four additional new-to-Horizon vehicles for Car Pass holders across the series window. Playground has not yet named the full car list beyond the Jaguar reveal.

Beyond the September content, Playground also confirmed an October update will add a 7-Eleven Evolving World and EventLab Content Pack, developed in collaboration with 7-Eleven, Inc., after the idea rose through the Forza Feedback Portal.

Drift Attack is free for every player on every edition and ships with the same September 7 patch that transitions Forza Horizon 6 out of the current Horizon Mascot Party series. Once the update is downloaded, players can find the new mode by its unique map icon at Shimanoyama.
