Final Fantasy VII Revelation Trailer Reveals Imagined Weapons, Typhon Summon and Open-World Skies at gamescom Opening Night Live
SQUARE ENIX opened gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 with a new gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, showing the colossal Weapons super-bosses, a new Typhon summon, FITS job outfits and parachute-based open-world traversal ahead of the Spring 2027 launch on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

SQUARE ENIX used gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 to debut a fresh gameplay trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, and confirmed a Spring 2027 launch window for the concluding chapter. The trailer, distributed via Square Enix's official press site, opens on the long-teased Weapons — enormous biomechanical super-bosses that defend a world in crisis without distinguishing friend from foe — and ends with Cloud Strife standing against the planet's deadliest guardians in the sky, on desert sands and at the bottom of the sea.
The official press release describes the Weapons as "reimagined… in ultra-challenging endgame battles as an homage to their original forms," giving longtime fans of the 1997 original a chance to face Ruby, Emerald and Ultima Weapon with completely redesigned combat mechanics. The trailer also introduces Typhon as a new summon for the Remake series, and confirms parachute- and grappling-hook-based aerial traversal from the Highwind airship, plus Chocobo-based open-world mounts. According to Square Enix, the whole planet will be "freely explorable" in the final chapter, with seamless transitions from air to land.
A new FITS system is the headline character progression addition. Cloud and Tifa are shown in their Warrior and Black Mage FITS — class-themed outfits that Square Enix says "bestow new abilities and greater heights of power, with specialized roles evoking classic Final Fantasy jobs." Combat sticks to the series' established hybrid system, with players toggling between real-time action and Tactical Mode, now expanded with additional playable characters. Square Enix has also confirmed that save data from Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade or Final Fantasy VII Rebirth unlocks bonus Summon Materia in Revelation: a Chocobo & Moogle summon for Intergrade saves and a Phoenix summon for Rebirth saves.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, Epic Games Store and Xbox on PC. The title is not yet rated by the ESRB and is available for wishlisting across all storefronts. Returning players can catch up via Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, both of which now ship on Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, PS5 and PC, and both of which received a new "Streamlined Progression" feature — unlimited HP and MP options, an always-full ATB gauge and easier weapon ability acquisition — as part of the lead-up to Revelation. The Final Fantasy VII original game celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2027.
