Elden Ring Tarnished Edition Launches on Switch 2 Today as Tarnished Pack DLC Lands on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox for $4.99
Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, the Switch 2 bundle of the base game and Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, goes on sale today, August 28. Existing Elden Ring owners on other platforms can buy the same new content separately as the Tarnished Pack DLC for $4.99 on PlayStation, Xbox and Steam.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, FromSoftware's Switch 2 release that bundles the open-world action RPG with the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion and a small batch of new content, goes on sale today, August 28, 2026. On the same day, Bandai Namco opens the standalone Tarnished Pack DLC for existing Elden Ring owners on PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
Nintendo's official Switch 2 product page confirms a release date of August 28 and lists the edition as a Bandai Namco release. The Nintendo newsroom post "Rise with ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition, launching Aug. 28 on Nintendo Switch 2" walks through the Lands Between setting, character creation and co-op features ahead of launch, and links directly to the Switch 2 store page for pre-orders that are now live. The Switch 2 edition includes the full base game, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, two new starting classes (the Heavy Knight and the Idus Knight), four new armor sets and the first official customization options for Torrent, the spectral steed.
For the millions who already own Elden Ring on another platform, FromSoftware is releasing the new content separately. According to Bandai Namco's "ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition and new content for ELDEN RING beckon back players to the lands between" news post, the Tarnished Pack DLC launches today on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC via Steam, and includes the two new starting classes, the four armor sets and the three Torrent skins. Bandai Namco's separate FAQ, "How to get new ELDEN RING classes, weapons, and Torrent skin customizations", sets the price at €4.99 with regional currency equivalents and confirms that the pack works whether or not players already own Shadow of the Erdtree.
The Steam release time is 7:00 JST / 00:00 CEST / 15:00 PDT, while PlayStation and Xbox go live at midnight local time, per the official Patch 1.17 notes republished on Bandai Namco's newsroom. Patch 1.17, which FromSoftware shipped on August 27, is required for the Tarnished Pack content and applies a sweeping balance pass covering weapon power, stamina costs, guard boost, parry timing, spell casting speed and several PvP interactions.
The Switch 2 release is the only way to play Elden Ring on a Nintendo platform. Pricing is set at $79.99 / €79.99 / 9,020 yen for both digital and physical versions, according to Bandai Namco's announcement of the edition.
Our Take
The Switch 2 port is the headline event, but the more interesting move is the standalone DLC. Charging $4.99 / €4.99 for two classes, four armor sets and three Torrent skins, and making it available on the same day as the Switch 2 edition, lets FromSoftware monetise the upgrade without forcing existing owners on PC and consoles to repurchase the full game. With Patch 1.17 already live, the rollout is unusually clean: install the patch, buy the pack, and the new content is in the character creator and at any Site of Grace the next time you log in.
