Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Marks First Anniversary With Super Gogeta, Year-End Overhaul That Pulls the MOBA Into Third Person

Bandai Namco has used the Gekishin Squadra first-anniversary SQUADRA Talk livestream to announce Super Gogeta for Season 7 on September 9 and a radical Year-End Overhaul that shifts the game from its top-down MOBA roots to a third-person, over-the-shoulder action format.

Dragon Ball Gekishin Squadra Marks First Anniversary With Super Gogeta, Year-End Overhaul That Pulls the MOBA Into Third Person

Bandai Namco Entertainment used today's "SQUADRA Talk Season 7" livestream to mark one year of Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra with two of the biggest announcements in the game's short history: Super Gogeta is joining the roster in the first-anniversary season, and the title is being fundamentally retooled through a Year-End Overhaul that swaps its current top-down MOBA camera for a third-person, over-the-shoulder perspective.

The stream, hosted by chief producer TOSHI and producer KEN, opened with congratulations to RamGoat, representing the EU Region, for winning the SQUADRA BLAST WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2026. The team then turned to the overhaul, framing it as the result of a year of player feedback rather than a reaction to player-count concerns.

Season 7 launches on September 9 and is being positioned as the game's first-anniversary season. The fan-favorite fusion warrior Super Gogeta headlines the update, with Android 19 joining as a new Helper for the Technical role and San-Shinron as a new boss. Starting in Season 7, the boss lineup will rotate every two weeks. The anniversary campaign runs alongside the season with the "Open Up to 140 Capsules! Open 5 a Day! Free G-Capsules" promotion, anniversary login rewards including a 1st Anniversary Party Hat, Special Passes, the GEKISHIN Rules Play Campaign, and the Lucky Box Battle team event.

The Year-End Overhaul is the larger story. In a developer letter published on the official Gekishin Squadra site, the team explained that the game's strategic depth and knowledge-based mechanics had widened the gap between top-performing players and everyone else, creating lopsided matches for newcomers. To address this, the studio is making five structural changes: a third-person camera that brings players closer to the action, redesigned maps and rules built around simpler win conditions, a simplified role system, expanded customization options including "MAX Super Attacks" that can replace existing Super Attacks, and a broader review of character acquisition and progression systems.

The team stressed that the changes target readability, balance, and accessibility rather than the existing player base, but acknowledged the decision is not without trade-offs. Following the 1st Anniversary Campaign, the game will transition to the new ruleset, and the current ruleset will no longer be available. The studio has committed to "carefully considering" how items earned under the current system will carry over. Full details on hero availability, item migration, and the new battle experience are still to come.

Dragon Ball: Gekishin Squadra is available now on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, and mobile devices via the App Store and Google Play, free to play with optional in-app purchases. The Season 7 anniversary content arrives on September 9, with the Year-End Overhaul targeted for the end of 2026.

The full developer letter is available on the official Gekishin Squadra news page, with the first-anniversary cinematic trailer and the SQUADRA Talk livestream on the official Bandai Namco Entertainment YouTube channel.
