Commodore and CD PROJEKT RED Team Up for the Commodore 77, a $377 Cyberpunk 2077 Edition of the C64 Ultimate

Commodore has officially unveiled the Commodore 77, a Cyberpunk 2077-themed special edition of the Commodore 64 Ultimate and its first-ever franchise hardware collaboration. The retro computing brand is partnering with CD PROJEKT RED to bring Night City styling — a sleek metal plate, a soft turquoise glow, graffiti tags, and a custom neon power light — to the FPGA-powered recreation of the original C64, complete with a Cyberpunk 2077-themed BASIC 2.0 boot screen, new menu colors, collectible pins, stickers, themed packaging, and a spiral-bound user guide filled with lore and type-in BASIC programs.

Pre-orders are live today at the official Commodore store for $377. Each Commodore 77 ships with an exclusive "Arasaka" cartridge inspired by the shards from Cyberpunk 2077, containing an original demo that expands the Cyberpunk lore and is only available with the limited edition console. The hardware remains fully compatible with what Commodore says is more than 99.9% of the over 10,000 existing C64 games and peripherals, both vintage and modern.

"In a world dominated by corporate surveillance, algorithmic feeds, and private security, the safest tech is sometimes the oldest," said Peri Fractic, President, CEO, and Chief Product Officer at Commodore, in the official announcement. Fractic added that he had been a Cyberpunk 2077 fan since its release and learned during talks with CD PROJEKT RED Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski that he was a lifelong C64 fan as well. "For us both, this has been a collaboration where art imitates life, and in turn, life for the denizens of Night City now imitates that art. We hope they enjoy their new terminal."

CD PROJEKT RED framed the project as a way to bring a slice of Night City into the long-established C64 demo scene. "The tech in Cyberpunk 2077 is chunky, tactile, and substantial — meaning that the Commodore 77 can really feel like a device lifted straight out of the game world and onto your desktop," said Patrick Mills, Franchise Content Strategy Lead at CD PROJEKT RED. Mills described the bundled demo as "a demonstration of technical skill and the power of the Commodore."

The Commodore 77 represents Commodore's first franchise partnership at a time when its FPGA-based C64 Ultimate has been one of the few successful retro hardware launches of the last several years. The collaboration also lands ahead of Cyberpunk 2077's continued post-launch support and the wider Cyberpunk multimedia push, which includes the upcoming Edgerunners 2 anime on Netflix.

Pre-orders are open now through the official Commodore store. More details on the Cyberpunk universe are available on the game's official site.
