Blood of Dawnwalker console version locked to 40fps at launch as fans call for a 60fps patch

Rebel Wolves and Bandai Namco's open-world dark-fantasy RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker will launch with two console graphics modes and no 60fps option, fresh console gameplay shown this week confirms. Both modes target dynamic 4K: a Quality Mode aiming for 30fps and a Balanced Mode aiming for 40fps, the same pair of targets on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S.

The absence of a higher frame-rate option has become the talking point. "60 fps on Pro? Cmon guys," wrote one commenter on the official trailer. "It's 2026, 60 fps is the bare minimum at this point," said another. Speculation that a 60fps patch is already confirmed has circulated on social media, but neither Rebel Wolves nor Bandai Namco has formally announced one, and no official post on the Bandai Namco page or the Rebel Wolves channels lists 60fps in the current spec sheet. The two source paths - the gameplay trailer and the official Bandai Namco product page - independently point to the same two-mode setup.

Rebel Wolves, founded by former CD Projekt Red developers including Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has positioned The Blood of Dawnwalker as the first chapter of a new single-player open-world dark-fantasy RPG built in Unreal Engine 5, with a strong narrative focus. Bandai Namco is publishing the title. Console players had been watching for performance targets because open-world RPGs of this scope have typically offered a 60fps Performance Mode alongside a 30fps Quality Mode in recent generations. The decision to top out at 40fps is unusual for the current console cycle.

The Blood of Dawnwalker is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S next month, with the two-mode 30/40fps configuration applying across all console SKUs at launch. Rebel Wolves has not yet confirmed whether a post-launch performance patch adding a 60fps option is planned.
