ARC Raiders: Frozen Trail Arrives October 8

Frozen Trail follows Embark’s decision earlier this year to move away from smaller, frequent content drops in favor of fewer but significantly larger updates. According to the studio, much of the team’s recent development effort has been focused on Frozen Trail, with lessons learned from the first months of ARC Raiders influencing almost every part of the upcoming release.

A Brand-New Frozen Map

One of the biggest additions in Frozen Trail will be an entirely new map.

The story behind the new area begins when Shani asks Raiders to investigate an unusual signal originating from beyond the mountains. Players will venture into a frozen settlement located beneath massive mountain ranges at the edge of the Rust Belt.

The location was once home to villages, factories, research facilities and an observatory, but has since been abandoned. Embark says the map has been designed with greater verticality, exploration and discovery in mind, with threats waiting both above and below ground.

The studio recently completed a round of user-experience testing for the map and is continuing to make adjustments ahead of its October release.

A New High-Level ARC Operation

Experienced Raiders will also have a new endgame-style challenge to take on.

Frozen Trail will introduce a massive new ARC Operation aimed at players looking for a considerably more demanding experience. Embark is keeping many of the details secret for now, but says the activity will focus heavily on meaningful decisions, dynamic encounters and situations where cooperation and careful judgment are essential.

Players will need to balance combat, teamwork, risk and survival, with Embark describing the upcoming operation as one of the most intense experiences introduced to ARC Raiders so far.

New ARC Enemies Are Coming

The frozen environment will not be the only unfamiliar threat waiting for players.

Embark is developing several new ARC enemies that will arrive alongside the map. These machines are intended to challenge established strategies and force players to reconsider how they move and fight.

The developer teased enemies ranging from a small and agile troublemaker to an enormous machine capable of stopping Raiders in their tracks.

No exact enemy names or abilities have been revealed yet.

Outposts Bring Deeper Progression

Frozen Trail will also make substantial changes to character progression.

One of the biggest additions is a new personal space called the Outpost. While Raiders have traditionally operated from their underground Raider Dens, the Outpost represents an opportunity to begin reclaiming the surface.

Players will be able to decorate their Outpost, research elements of the world and work toward longer-term progression goals. Embark says the broader objective is to give players more ways to define their individual journey through the Rust Belt.

The existing Skill Tree is also being adjusted to provide players with greater control over the type of Raider they want to build.

Raider Decks are receiving attention as well, with Embark looking for ways to make the system more engaging and rewarding.

New Weapons, Gadgets and Customization

The additions revealed so far represent only part of the Frozen Trail update.

Embark has confirmed that new weapons are in development, alongside additional weapon personalization options, gadgets, cosmetics, instruments and other currently unannounced content.

The studio is also continuing its work on the underlying game. Improvements to matchmaking, anti-cheat systems, stability and quality-of-life features will accompany the larger content additions.

Embark plans to reveal significantly more information about the update throughout September, meaning details about the new map, ARC Operation, enemies and additional content should arrive in the weeks leading up to launch.

With a completely new region, additional ARC threats, an ambitious high-level activity and expanded progression systems, Frozen Trail is shaping up to be the most substantial expansion of ARC Raiders since its release.
